Our Philosophy on Student Debt
Imagine graduating debt free! PBC is strongly committed to helping make your educational goals a reality without leaving you in debt for decades to come. How can we do this? First, City Bible Church subsidizes a large portion of the cost for operating the college. This allows us to keep tuition relatively low in comparison to many schools. Second, the class schedule and fee schedule have been arranged to allow students to work and pay their way through school. In fact, more than 85% of our students graduate debt free! Most students are able to find a good part-time job in the Portland area, go to school until noon and then work in the afternoons. Some are able to commute together while others take public transportation, such as the city bus line which runs within one block of campus.
The cost per semester is specifically determined at registration. However, a good per semester estimate is:
- Full-time, On-campus Student is about $4250. (The cost for music students tend to be a little higher due to private music lessons.)
- Full-time, Off-campus student is about $2500.
Ideally, students that come prepared with a 50% down payment for at least one semester tend to have a more manageable payment experience. However, we are happy to work with all students in order to avoid unnecessary debt encumbrances. Click here for detailed information on Tuition & Fees.
Here's how we're able to assist our students to financially meet their educational goals:
PBC offers a 0% interest payment plan to all students consisting of a down payment and subsequent monthly payments. Students are required to put 50% down for the Fall Semester and 35% down for the Spring Semester at registration.
After a down payment is made, the remaining balance is then divided equally between 4 months (5 months in the spring semester) and placed on a monthly payment plan.
Payments are due on the 20th of the same month with an additional 5 day grace period. If a payment is not made by the 25th for any reason, a late fee of $20 is incurred. If payment is not made within 30 days after the 20th, the student will be forced to withdraw from school.
Payments can be made by cash, check, money order directly to the school. Credit and debit card payments are also welcome and may be made through our Student Information System “Populi” (a 2% convenience fee is passed on and added to the students account).
All Financial Information, including current amount due and monthly statements are available through Populi only. Students also have the ability of sending a link to anyone else that may be paying on their account so that the payment can be completed online.
Each semester, there are a limited number of part-time work opportunities available on campus, usually on our custodial, maintenance or cafeteria teams. Student-workers generally earn minimum wage. In the event that the student is unable to obtain gainful employment off campus, you may apply for this program. Further information is given once the student has been formally accepted to PBC. More information for International Applicants can be found here.
A limited number of scholarships have become available for the Fall 2011 semester for any new applicants referred to us by MFI pastors. Click here to apply.
Private grants, loans and scholarships that do not require federal participation are generally accepted by PBC. It is up to each individual student to determine his/her qualification and application for the scholarship. The student needs to inform the Finance Office or Registrar if there are any requirements on the school’s part in order to obtain the funds.
