Ministry Experience

The PBC Practicum and Apprenticeship Programs are based on the following beliefs:

  • All Christians should serve others.
  • God’s primary instrument in the world is the local church.
  • Students often learn best by doing.
  • Practical application is an essential part of academic education.
  • Ministry skills are best developed in a purposeful context that includes supervision, mentoring and evaluation.

One of the greatest advantages of PBC is its connection to City Bible Church. This provides students with a wide variety of “hands-on” ministry opportunities. The ministry staff of CBC has a great heart to see PBC students equipped and released in ministry. Care is taken to place students into areas of interest and calling for their practicum requirements. All students are expected to serve in their own local church unless they are geographically too distant, in which case they are integrated into City Bible Church for this part of their program. Here are just a few of the ministries at City Bible Church that you can get connected at:

Youth Ministry - The Youth Department focuses on age young people age 12 to 24. For those who desire to minister to youth, this is a great area to become involved to develop those ministry skills.

All Things New – ATN is a weekly time to come together and have an encounter with God. We want to help you find a renewed sense of God's care for you, and encourage you to find Strength in Christ to overcome the challenges of life! It is a time of fellowship, prayer, and listening to the word. Come and make some great new friendships!

First Impressions – Our Greeters are the warm, friendly faces that welcome you when you enter one of our campuses each weekend. They serve as hosts/hostesses greeting everyone who comes through all entrances to our buildings by making them feel welcome and comfortable.

Graphic Presenters - The Graphics Presenter volunteers play a key role in delivering the life-changing message to the whole church. If you are into music and power point and seeing life changes take place then this is the position for you. Graphic Presenter volunteers display the power point presentations of the pastor or speaker along with word and the worship songs. Graphic presenters are part of the media team at CBC.

Camera Operators - Camera Operators are a vital part of the media team at CBC. Opportunities exist at all of our weekend services as well as working with the video production team.

Multi-Cultural Ministry - CBC is uniquely called and positioned to be a church for all people. We live in an urban region with growing ethnic diversity. In spite of language and cultural barriers, our passion is to see people from every generation, ethnicity and background worshiping, serving and having meaningful relationships together in one local church! Our weekly worship services increasingly reflect the ethnic diversity found in our communities.

Children’s Ministry - We consider it a privilege to have the opportunity to partner with families to see children raised to become fully devoted followers of Christ with a heart for the local church. The goal of the City Kids’ team is to help kids of all ages understand that God has a larger-than-life plan for them.   We aim to create a fun and safe environment that helps nurture godly relationships with not only other kids but also teachers.

Church Administration - If you love to do lists and organizing things join the Administrative team. There are lots of opportunities to roll up your sleeves and help things run smoothly at the CBC offices.

City Cafe Servers - If you love great coffee and making people smile then the City Cafe is for you. Be a part of the team that makes the City Cafe the place to be after every weekend service.

English as a Second Language Tutoring - ESL Tutors enjoy the great privilege of learning about other cultures, making new friends and helping immigrants learn to communicate in their new surroundings. Teach English and share the love of Christ with some new friends.

City Care Volunteers - City Care Volunteers are all about caring for our guests. Teams meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays to connect with people who have visited CBC weekend experiences, pray with and care for our guests.

Worship & Creative Arts - Our vision and mission is to worship God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength. We believe worship is a lifestyle, and it is our desire to be examples of those who wholeheartedly and passionately express their love for God in everything they do. Whether it is through music, dance, drama or any other creative expression, we long to see people touched and changed by God’s abiding presence.

Origin Ministry - More than any other season of life, people in their 20’s and early 30’s will choose their vocation, marry their spouse, begin having children, buy their first house and define their life-long level of commitment to the local church. For most people this season of life is truly the ORIGIN of our biggest commitments to follow God's plan throughout the rest of our lives

It is our expectation that a student would begin their practicum experience at a serving/exposure level, progressing through their years here to more strategic ministry skill development and ideally finishing with an apprenticeship style experience. The successful completion of practicum credits is a graduation requirement.
