PBC School of Worship
What Makes PBC’s Church Music Program Unique?
Associate of Church Music (Year 1 & 2)
Students in their first year of the program select one of the following tracks of emphasis. Students in any track take the same core music and Bible courses together, and then attend their unique track specific credits – generally 1-2 classes per semester, separately to fulfill their degree requirements.
The Worship Leader track is designed for the student who has a passion and desire to lead people in congregational worship. The student will be given a foundation to become a successful leading with any size of group. Courses will include vocal training, musical and song leadership and rehearsing a worship band, reading music sheets and playing entry level piano.
The student who wish to focus on a specific instrument in a worship band or orchestra will benefit from the Worship Musician Emphasis. Courses focus on helping the student develop a high level of skill on their instrument individually and within a band along with a core Biblical foundation and leadership training.
In order to enter this program, the student must pass a proficiency exam.
Worship Songwriter track is designed for the student who is passionate about expressing worship through writing presence-driven songs to use in worship services, special events, evangelism, drama and musicals. In addition to songwriting courses, topics include creating lead sheets and charts, arranging, working in a recording studio, understanding basic piano or guitar fundamentals and MIDI.
The Worship Ministry track is the core music student program created for the student who has a vision to serve in a local church in worship ministry. This track includes all the core curriculum courses but excludes track-specific classes like worship leading or songwriting that the other tracks contain. This two-year program is designed to prepare the student to be involved in worship ministry on a lay-level.
Bachelor of Church Music (Year 3 & 4)
After completing the Associates of Church Music degree, students may be able to continue on to the third & fourth year Bachelor degree program: Worship Pastor program. The leadership focus of this program prepares students for a worship pastoral role, to build a worship department using a variety of skills – including pastoral & team leadership, administration, deeper Biblical training joined with a broad knowledge of music, rhythm instruments and worship leading.
There are multiple opportunities throughout the program for the student to receive mentoring while gaining hands-on experience through PBC chapel services, City Bible Church services and various other ministries.
School of Worship students experience in-depth training on a practical level as well as spiritual. Private lessons, recital participation, chapel services, and music juries are just a few of the ways that students grow in skill and excellence based on their track of emphasis.
